Another successful year

Another succesful ‘Trail’ – visitors numbers estimated to be between 4 & 5 thousand. The extra day on Monday allowed visitors to go round more venues and to meet more of the artists/craftspeople (choice of around 70 venues, 180 participants).

The ‘Silent’ auction event in Town Hall was a great success and gave visitors the opportunity to buy the ‘canvas squares’ produced by artists/craftspeople from this year’s ‘Trail’.
Silent Auction part 2 will take place next week (ie until Sunday 14 August) – opening times 1000-1800.

Thank you to everyone who took part this year and to visitors who bravely visited so many venues ( sore feet and exhaustion?)
Next year’s event will take place over four days from Friday 3 August to Monday 7 August – so book your holidays now so that you don’t miss it.

Photos of this year’s ‘Trail’ will gradually be appearing on the website so if you have taken any ‘respectable ones this year why not share them with us and they may even appear on the website.

See and hear them in and around the town during the four days of the Kirkcudbright Art & Crafts Trail.

Also on Monday 1st August after the ‘Trail’ has officially finished there will be a special Art & Crafts Trail Ceilidh in the Royal Hotel Kirkcudbright from 8.00pm.

This is a great opportunity for ‘Trail’ participants and visitors to let their hair down and celebrate the ‘Trail’ – even if you’re a bit weary after four days this should raise your spirits and energy levels.

Tickets are only £5 for this fantastic event and are available at the Royal Hotel Kirkcudbright.

Trail Bus route and designated stops agreed

The 2011 route has been planned and details are shown on the map below. The map is also featured on the main website page and in the brochure.

The trail bus will run from 11.00am each day of the ‘Trail’ and will start at the Harbour Square (near the Summer Festivities Information Kiosk). The route will travel from the Harbour Square to Merse and onwards to Boreland before returning to Bar Hill and back to Hrbour Square. Designated stops will be signposted.

All Systems Go

The race is now on to produce the 2011 brochure and to update the website.

If you wish to participate please get in touch with Pauline or Vivien by Friday 25th March at the latest (to contact click here). They need to know who wishes to be involved this year to enable them to allocate venues (where necessary) and to include information in the brochure.

Additionally , if you are new this year, I need to know your details for the website – contact me at kie@artandcraftstrail.co.uk and I will provide you with a form to help you provide the correct information. You should also provide me with an image to place against your entry – Closing Date for inclusion in the brochure is Friday 25th March – the website is updated whenever necessary.

Those who took part last year should check their entry on the website and let me know that either they are happy with the entry or provide new material for inclusion this year. Likewise with images you have provided - contact me at kie@artandcraftstrail.co.uk to confirm they are OK or to replace them.

Trail Bus

Update

We appreciate that you have to cover a lot of ground to get to all the venues outside the centre during the four days so we are expecting to be able to run the ‘Trail Bus’ again this year.

The transport used last year (2010) has, sadly, bit the dust but we are hopeful that it’s replacement will be available.

Once again there will be no charge for using this facility.

Please let us know if you found this facility useful last year or have any suggestions on how to improve the service.

2011 Art & Crafts Trail

Preparations are already in hand for the 2011 ‘Trail’ which has been extended to four days (to include the Bank Holiday Monday).

The dates are: Friday 29th July – Monday 1st August from 11.00am – 5.00pm daily.

A meeting has been arranged for all interested parties on Friday February 25th (7.00pm – 9.00pm) in the Catholic Hall off High Street Kirkcudbright- please come along and have your say – all suggestions welcome.

The 2011 bookmarks will be available very soon and will be available at the meeting – hope to see you there.

The Art & Crafts Trail decorated lorry took second prize this year – congratulations to everyone involved for the tremendous effort. The ‘Trail’ lorry’s ‘Beside the Sea’ theme was well executed and looked amazing but was pipped at the post by a lorry with a ‘loo’ – a topical novelty in Kirkcudbright’s Harbour Square.
